Real-Time Part Availability
In order to quickly respond to customer demand, a supplier must have constant real-time part availability information. There are two key features C.CoreTM has to provide this information.
The first is the part availability screen. This tool was designed to allow production planning personnel to quickly view the ability to meet customer demand 14 days from the current day. This projection is based on the production schedule and open customer orders and displays all parts that belong to the selected production cell. For every part assigned to the selected production cell C.CoreTM:
- Displays the current on hand quantity
- For every day starting with the current day, and for 14 days, compute and display the 'projected on-hand' by adding any scheduled production and subtracting any open customer orders.
This process also allows users to view projected inventory quantities globally or by each physical location.
The second area is in shipment planning. On the load planning screen, C.CoreTM allows the user to view the availability to ship a part to a customer. The following quantities are displayed on the load planning screen:
- Open Orders Quantity: Total open orders for this part in the system regardless of customer / ship-to.
- On Hand Quantity: Inventory for this part currently available at only the ship-from location for this part.
- Quantity Committed to Loads: Quantity already assigned to loads that have not been shipped yet.
- Available Quantity: 'On hand quantity' minus 'Quantity Committed to Loads'. This is what is available to be assigned to loads.
This process allows the individual planning the shipments to detect shortages and proactively react to the situation prior to discovering there is not enough inventory to make a shipment during the shipping process.
